Known Issues in the Kansas EZ Library Beta

OneClickDigital

Updated 4/9/12

Listed below are known technical issues with our beta test of OneClickDigital.  Kansas users have also sent OneClick a number of good suggestions.  Thank you for your continued patience, helpful feedback on the site, and your error reports.

Searching & Browsing Problems: all of these have been reported to OneClick (please note some have been resolved and removed).

  • "Show only available" search does not work.  OneClick has removed this option while they are fixing the problem.  This option will return to the "advanced search" page when it is done.  Solution: Fixed 4/5/12, go to the Advanced Search page to see how to limit by Availability. You can also choose to click on "Available" in the side of any search results page.
  • Genre or Target Audience Wrong.  Young adult books coming up when the target audience is selected as "Children,"  political science books turning up in science fiction.  Update: OneClick is working on appling codes to all books that will sort them into the correct genre and target audience.
  • Missing summaries--this is a technical issue.  The server has the summary, it just is not generating on the book's information page.

Browsing pop-ups for books not working: when hovering the mouse over the cover of a book, you are supposed to get a small popup that gives you more information about the book, so you do not have to click on each title to read more about it.  UPDATE: OneClick has turned book popups off entirely for now, as they were not working correctly and contributing to slowness issues.  You will still see them shown on some OneClick videos, as they intend to bring this option back after further upgrades are made.

Holds Checking Out Automatically: currrently there is a glitch in the holds emailing system, so OneClick has set all holds to check out automatically.  People were missing their chance on holds.  If you receive a notice that your book is available, it will be in the Checked Out area of "My Collections" on the website or on Media Manager.

Windows XP: we have received a variety of error reports from Windows XP users about Media Manager. These problems range in severity from being unable to read the Media Manager's screen (it is fuzzy, too small or too big) to the Media Manager not functioning at all.  If you are a Windows XP user and are experiencing a problem, please report it to OneClickDigital supportUPDATE: we have not received any new reports of these problems since late December.  If you are still experiencing these issues please report them.

Media Manager weird transfers:

  • The book is not transferred into the folder you expect on the MP3 player, and/or the folder for this book on your player is listed as "unknown." This is a known issue for some mp3 players.  They have made progress on this issue since we opened our account, so it is promising that they will solve it entirely.
  • The book has more than 100 tracks to it, and the tracks end up out of order after transfer.  This is a problem in the way the files are numbered and Media Manager sees those numbers!  Update: this should have been fixed by the update to Media Manager 2.0.1.

iTunes opens every time you use Windows Media Manager, despite the fact you use a non-iPod MP3 player: SOLUTION: a new setting has been added so that iTunes does not get involved with Media Manager unless you want it to.  In Media Manager, click the "Preferences" menu then "Global."  Change "Allow iTunes/Apple Device Detection" to "No."

Can only add a book to your wishlist, not checkout or put on hold: this is another part of OneClickDigital being in beta.  They are working on adding our owned titles to the new site as well as a number of new books we have just bought.  Sometimes they can load the book's information page before they can load the files for the book.  UPDATE: most of these have been found and dealt with.  If you can only add a book to your Wishlist (no holds feature) now, please check your Holds list.  The Holds list can only have 10 items on it, so if you have reached this limit and the book you are looking at is checked out, Wishlist is your only option.

Media Manager displays poorly with assisted technology device/software: two patrons with zooming software have reported that not all of Media Manager will display on their computers.  One noted that the entire top of the Media Manager (which includes the menus to easily change settings and reach OneClick support) are cut off.  If you have assisted technology software on your computer and are experiencing this or other problems, please report this to OneClick support.  We have been able to verify this issue at the State Library, and provided OneClick with information on the issue.

3M Cloud Library

Updated 3/28/12

Listed below are known technical issues with our beta test of the 3M Cloud Library.  Thank you for your suggestions, reports, and patience!

Android App Issues.  The update for Android (released 3/7/12) has not fixed the  issues being experienced by all users.  At this time we do not know how long it will take to resolve this.  In the meantime, some Android users may experience login errors, searching problems, or general connection issues depending on your version of Android.  Please see Android App Help on how to clear your device's cache, and instructions on reporting errors to the State Library.

Mobile App Auto-bookmarking only works sometimes.  The system is supposed to save your place in the book, but that is not always working.  Please set a manual bookmark to be safe.  Update: this has stablized quite a bit, but 3M continues to pay attention to the issue.

Cloud features not fully functional yet. The 3M Cloud Library is supposed to allow you access to your checked out books, on all versions of the app, throughout your checkout period.  For now, if you use both versions of the app, please check out the book on the version of the app you intend to use it on. This means if you intend to transfer a book to your Nook (or other ereader) you should check it out on the computer version of the app.  Realize that regular ereaders (Nook, Sony) will save your place in the book on that reader, but cannot communicate what page you are on to the 3M Cloud Library apps.

Categories are turned on, but are not completely ready yet. This is supposed to be a subject browse for owned books, but currently it is showing everything in the 3M sales catalog instead!   UPDATE: You should not be seeing books that we do not own any longer. Categories should only show books that we own, and if there is a category without any books in it currently that category should not show.   Work on categories is ongoing at 3M, expect to see this section get better over time.

Smartphone access spotty? If you are having trouble with the 3M mobile app, please see if the issue is the connection. Sometimes the 3G/4G network or your wireless internet connection is spotty. Try both to isolate the issue.
