The State Library, located in 169-W of the Capitol Building, is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm year round. It is closed on major holidays.
The State Capitol Building offers regular tours M-F; during renovation they do not include the State Library. More information is available here.
Driving Directions
The Capitol Building is located in downtown Topeka at 300 SW 10th Ave., at the intersection of 10th & Jackson.
From the east
Exit I-70 at 362 B for 8th Street. Turn left onto 8th; proceed past Jackson. The Capitol will be on your left.
From the west
Exit I-70 at 362 A; proceed on Monroe St. to 8th Ave. Turn right onto 8th; proceed to Jackson. The State Capitol will be on your left.
Parking at the State Capitol
Visitor parking is available in the State Capitol underground parking garage, which can be accessed from 8th Ave. between Jackson and Harrison. Visitor spaces are clearly marked and are free for up to 2 hours. Parking availability may be more limited during legislative session (January – May).

State Capitol Directions
From the Parking Garage, take the elevator to Ground floor.
Follow the signs to the left; they will lead you to the Capitol
Building elevator. The State Library is located on the 1st floor. Exit the elevator on 1st floor, turn right and proceed through the rotunda to the West corridor. You will pass the Visitor's Desk. Proceed to the end of the West corridor, exit the double doors and turn left. You will travel through a short hallway with the State Library at the end of it.
The Governor’s Office is located on the 2nd floor. The Senate and House chambers are located on the 3rd floor. Tour guides and
other information is available on the 1st floor.
The Capitol is being renovated in stages; completion is scheduled for
2012. The State Library will return to its original space on the 3rd floor, North wing, in June 2012.
